579.030. Distribution of controlled substance in a protected location — penalty.

Selling drugs near schools, parks, or public housing is a Class A felony

This law makes it a very serious crime to sell or give away most drugs near places like schools, parks, or public housing.

1. You break this law if you knowingly sell, give, or deliver any controlled substance (except 35 grams or less of marijuana or synthetic cannabinoid) in one of the following places:

  • Within 2,000 feet of a public or private elementary, vocational, or high school, or on a school bus;
  • Within 1,000 feet of a public, state, county, municipal, or private park open to the public for recreation;
  • On public housing or government-assisted housing property.

2. This offense is a Class A felony, the most serious category of felony under Missouri law.
