573.215. Failure to report child pornography — penalty

People in tech or photo jobs must report child pornography or face charges

If someone working with photos, computers, or internet services sees child pornography while doing their job and doesn’t report it right away, they can be charged with a crime.

1. A person commits failure to report child pornography if they work as a photo or film processor, computer tech, or internet provider and—while doing their job—see any image, video, or computer file showing a child under 18 involved in sexual activity, and fail to report it to the police immediately or as soon as possible.

2. Failure to report child pornography is a class B misdemeanor.

3. This law does not mean internet service providers have to monitor their users or their communications.
