720 ILCS 5/8-1.2 — Solicitation of Murder for Hire
This law makes it a serious crime to pay or promise something valuable to have someone killed.
This Illinois law makes it illegal to ask or hire someone to commit murder, even if the killing never happens. The punishment for this crime is very severe, especially if a child is involved.
(a) A person breaks this law if they try to get another person to kill someone for them, and they offer money or something valuable in exchange. This includes any contract, deal, or agreement made for a murder.
(b) This crime is considered a Class X felony. Anyone found guilty must go to prison for at least 20 years but not more than 40 years. If the person they tried to hire was under 17 years old, the punishment increases to between 25 and 60 years in prison.
