18 U.S.C. § 502 – Postage and Revenue Stamps of Foreign Governments (Counterfeiting)
This law makes it a federal crime to forge, counterfeit, or knowingly use forged or counterfeit postage or revenue stamps issued by foreign governments.
This statute targets counterfeiting and fraudulent use of postage stamps or revenue stamps issued by any foreign government.
It applies to the act of forging or counterfeiting such stamps, as well as knowingly uttering or using a forged or counterfeit foreign postage or revenue stamp.
What the law prohibits.
A person violates this statute if they knowingly:
- Forge a postage stamp or revenue stamp issued by a foreign government
- Counterfeit a postage stamp or revenue stamp issued by a foreign government
- Utter or use a forged or counterfeit postage stamp or revenue stamp of a foreign government
Penalties.
A person convicted under this statute shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.
