574.060. Refusal to disperse — penalty.

It’s a crime to stay at the scene of a riot or unlawful assembly after being told to leave.

This law makes it illegal to ignore a police officer’s order to leave the area where a riot or unlawful assembly is happening.

1. A person commits refusal to disperse offense if they:

  • Are at the scene of a riot or unlawful assembly; and
  • Knowingly refuse to follow a law enforcement officer’s order to leave the area.

2. Refusal to disperse is a class C misdemeanor.
