§ 570.023 RSMo – First-Degree Robbery Charges in Missouri

570.023. Robbery in the first degree — penalty.

This law makes it a serious crime to hurt someone or use a weapon while stealing.

If you use force to steal and someone is hurt or threatened, or if you use or show a weapon, it’s considered first-degree robbery.

1. A person commits first-degree robbery if they forcibly steal something and during the theft, either they or someone helping them does one of the following:

  • Causes serious physical injury to anyone;
  • Is armed with a deadly weapon;
  • Uses or threatens to use something dangerous against someone;
  • Shows or threatens to use something that looks like a deadly weapon or dangerous item;
  • Steals a controlled drug from a pharmacy.

2. Robbery in the first degree is a class A felony.
