569.200. Criminal Mischief — Offense and Penalty

Illegally entering or staying in someone’s home can lead to serious consequences

Under Missouri law, you commit the offense of criminal mischief if you unlawfully go into, stay in, or take over someone else’s home without their permission.

1. This includes actions like:

  • Illegally entering a house or apartment;
  • Refusing to leave a home when asked;
  • Occupying a residence without permission from the rightful owner or tenant.

2. This offense is classified as a Class A misdemeanor.
