571.060. Unlawful transfer of weapons, penalty.

It’s illegal to give guns, ammo, or certain weapons to people who shouldn’t have them.

This law makes it a crime to give or sell guns or ammo to kids, drunk people, or anyone banned from having them. It also covers certain other dangerous weapons like blackjacks.

1. A person commits unlawful transfer of weapons if they do any of the following:

  • (1) Knowingly give, sell, lend, or deliver a gun or ammo to someone who isn’t legally allowed to have it — like someone with a felony record or certain mental health issues.
  • (2) Give or sell a blackjack to someone under 18 without a parent or guardian’s okay, or give or sell any gun to someone under 18 without a parent or guardian’s okay — unless that person is a police officer, National Guard member, or soldier doing their official job.
  • (3) Recklessly give or sell a gun or ammo to someone who is drunk or high.

2. Doing the first thing on the list above is a class E felony. Doing the second or third thing is a class A misdemeanor.
