566.086. Sexual contact with a student.
Adults connected to a school can’t have sexual contact with students—even if the student agrees.
This law makes it a crime for certain adults working with or around schools to have sexual contact with students, no matter what the student says.
1. A person commits sexual misconduct with a student if they have sexual contact with a student and they are any of the following:
- A teacher, student teacher, or employee at the school;
- A volunteer (not a student at the school);
- An elected or appointed school official;
- Someone working for a company hired by the school;
- A coach or leader of a school-aged sports team, club, or performance group—even if it’s not officially part of the school.
2. “School” includes any Missouri public or private school from kindergarten to 12th grade, and school buses.
3. This sex offense is a class E felony.
4. It does not matter if the student agreed to the contact—it’s still a crime.
