Combs Waterkotte Scholarship 2024: Ethics in Action

Earn $250 toward your education by telling your story! Combs Waterkotte is excited to announce our current scholarship essay contest. See below for scholarship contest terms.

In life, we often encounter moments that test our values, challenge our ethics, and push us to make decisions that can have lasting impacts on ourselves and those around us. These ethical dilemmas require us to weigh our choices carefully, balancing what is right with what is easy, and often teaching us invaluable lessons in the process.

Consider a time when you faced an ethical dilemma and the decision you made. Reflect on the situation, the options you weighed, and the outcome of your choice. How did this experience shape your understanding of ethics, and what lessons did you learn about integrity, decision-making, and personal responsibility?

The Prompt and Submission Requirements

A 500-1,000 word essay about “Ethics in Action”

Share a time you encountered an ethical dilemma and the choice you made. Explore the dilemma, your thought process, the decision, and its aftermath. This prompt encourages open-ended reflection, but you might include the context of the dilemma, the moral principles it challenged, the impact of your decision on others, and the lessons you took away from the experience. Provide a personal and thoughtful perspective.

For your essay, please:

  • include your full name and an essay title
  • write between 500 – 1,000 words (longer does not always mean better!)
  • attach it as a PDF, txt, doc, or docx file
  • send it in by Sunday, June 16

One winner will be selected based on a quality essay and adherence to the submission rules and requirements. The winning essay will utilize correct grammar and spelling, meet the submission deadline, demonstrate strong writing skills and approach the prompt from a unique and personal perspective. You may follow any accepted style (AP, MLA, Chicago or other) of your choosing.
